Shakin' all over, part II
I am extremely sad to hear of the death of Issac Hayes. When I was growing up in Memphis, we used to see a lot of him around town. In fact, for a brief time in the 70s, I was, improbably, his neighbor - and his house was located on property that would later, believe it or not, be home to a synagogue!
He was not only a musical genius, but a civil rights leader - and Memphis will scarcely be Memphis without him. He was worth a whole passel of poets.
"There is no need of any theory for what gives pleasure through the ear, music or poetry." - Basil Bunting
