Bloody sestina!

After blogging about Basil Bunting as a Quaker, I thought I'd post something about his great friend, Ezra Pound, for contrast. The picture above is of the original recording, made for Harvard's Poetry Room in 1939, by Pound of his "bloody" Sestina: Altaforte. As you can see from the note on the disc above, he didn't want Harvard boys to hear it - lest they be incited to war.

Certainly one of Pound's most disgusting poems. And how revealing of his fundamental psychosis that he actually thought this bit of bombast could incite anything but revulsion.
